Looking for sports-car kicks, but with the abundance of speed parts and vast modification potential of a Civic? Look no further than Honda's feisty little CRX.

These pocket-size coupes made their debut for 1984. Essentially a two-seat version of the redesigned Civic also introduced that year, the CRX was initially aimed at people who sought frugal commuting (base 1.3-liter versions had EPA fuel economy ratings of 51 mpg city, 67 highway).

But the real news for enthusiasts came the following year when Honda gave the CRX its sporty Si version, which included upgraded suspension, performance-oriented tires, and a hotter 91-hp version of its 1.5-liter engine -- good for sub-nine-second 0-60 mph times in the featherweight car.

For 1988, an all-new CRX bowed, based again on a new Civic platform. CRX's wheelbase increased, and this second-generation design was somewhat heavier and bigger overall. Fortunately, performance remained in the same league, with the Si's horsepower rating increasing to 105, then 108 the following year. For 1990, CRX got four-wheel-disc brakes.

As sweet of a car as it was, this generation of CRX was destined to be the last -- Honda discontinued the line after 1991, replacing it with the similar but open-roofed Del Sol several years later.

Today, used CRXs are pretty easy to find, but it can sometimes be hard to gauge their true value -- completely stock ones are showing up less and less since these cars became immensely popular with sport-compact fans. The price of a particular CRX can often depend on the various upgrades it's received.

Popular mods include body kits, custom paint, aftermarket wheels, and hotter VTEC engine swaps. As with any modified car, look closely at how well upgrades are executed. In most cases, the work will have been done by the car's owner, whose talent, budget, and experience are unknowns.

Most CRXs now sell for less than $5000, with many of them below $3000. Those sub-$3k CRXs tend to be unmodified. And unmodified CRXs also tend to be unrestored.

That can be an important point, because all CRXs are at least 14 years old -- a lot them are pretty tired. You aren't likely to find a CRX with less than 100,000 miles at this point. Therefore buyers who want a completely stock example to start with will need to carefully consider how much money and patience they're willing to devote to basic mechanical repairs.

First-generation CRXs are getting kind of scarce, but if you have your heart set on their lighter weight and trimmer dimensions, those cars can be found with a little patience. And one plus is that they tend to show up in the lower end of the price range.

Regardless of what generation or level of modification, Honda's little CRXs can offer big-time fun. They're good performers to start with, there's plenty of aftermarket stuff available, and prices are about as low as performance cars go. Check 'em out.

Japanese stocks dropped, led by carmakers including the Honda Motor Co., on assumption that profits will be restricted by slower growth at home and abroad this year. This is why the Japanese automaker intends to raise its dividends.

Automakers are struggling with their domestic sales and it looks like their earnings will peak out in the near future,'' said Shigemi Nonaka, the chairman at Polestar Investment Management Co. in Tokyo which has $218 million in assets. Power companies aren't attractive anymore now they've paid their dividends and because a possible gain in crude prices may curb their profit growth this year.''

According to the Japan Auto Dealers Association in Tokyo, motor vehicle sales in Japan declined by ten percent from a year earlier in April, after decreasing 13 percent in March. Honda's stock lost 13 percent in the last three months, while Toyota fell some 9.5 percent as concerns have mounted that the U.S. economy, the largest overseas market for automakers, is growing at a slower pace. Also, the automaker forecasted last April 25 that its net income will decline 2.9 percent for the year to March 2008.

It's becoming clear that the U.S. auto market is slowing down,'' Shingo Hayashi, an analyst at Daiwa Institute of Research wrote in a May 7 note lowering the recommendation of Honda shares to neutral from outperform. He added, There's a high chance total auto sales in the U.S. this year will be lower than the previous year,' he wrote.

The second largest automaker in Japan intends to pay out more of its net income in dividends to bolster shareholder returns that have lagged those of its closest Japanese rival, Toyota. The automaker will pay out 30 percent of net income in dividends within two to three years as compared with 25 percent this fiscal year, Honda's chief financial officer, Fumihiko Ike, said in an interview.

In the past 12 months, Honda's shares have plummeted 1.3 percent as compared with a 6.7 percent gain for Toyota and a 1.9 percent increase in the benchmark Nikkei 225 Stock Average. The Tokyo-based carmaker will raise dividends even as it forecasts profit will fall for a second year because of higher costs for aluminum and precious metals. Raising cash dividends attracts more investors than buying back shares, said Yoshihiro Okumura, a general manager at Chiba-gin Asset Management.

The automaker plans to pay 80 or $0.67, a share this business year, up from 67 in 2006. The company is paying 20 every quarter this fiscal year. Toyota paid out 21.3 percent of its net income in dividends in the year that ended in March 2006 and plans to return 30 percent of profits to shareholders in dividends within two to four years.

We want to lure more investors, said Ike. We want to increase cash payments. Additionally, Honda said last month that it expected its net income to fall around 2.9 percent to 575 billion, or $4.79 billion, in the 12 months started April 1, from 592 billion the previous year. The forecast isn't conservative, Ike said, citing soaring prices for aluminum and precious metals and a weaker American market. He also expects the yen to increase against the dollar. The company will pay out 20.6 percent of the net income in dividends for last fiscal year, which ended in March. The final dividend will be paid in June.

Honda, which generates as much as 70 percent of its operating profit in the United States, expects the total auto demand in the country to be at 16.4 million vehicles this year, down from the previous 16.55 million in 2006. Honda expects its global vehicle sales to rise 7.7 percent to 3.94 million units in the year ending next March. It forecasts that vehicle sales will increase 2.9 percent in North America and that number is less than its gain of 6.3 percent in the same period a year earlier.

We will still increase sales in a shrinking market, Ike said, citing its redesigned CRV sport utility vehicle, Accord sedan and the Fit compact car. Hondas American market share increased 0.4 percentage points to 9.2 percent in the first four months of this year, taking away share from General Motors Corp. and the Ford Motor Co.

Honda would likely have gained even more if its suppliers had been able to raise production to meet demand, said Koji Endo at Credit Suisse Group in Tokyo. Honda forecasts its capital expenditure to rise 13 percent to 710 billion yen this business year and it will probably maintain the same level through 2010, Ike said.

At present, the automaker is building a factory, which will integrate the Honda clutch, engines and other auto parts to its product lines. The new factory in Japan will open by 2010. Also, its sixth North American assembly plant in Indiana will build Civics and CRVs next year.

There are two names that define Honda cars more than any other: Civic and Accord. Sure, newer models have sprung up including the CR-V, Element, Insight, Ridgeline, Odyssey, and more. Yet, it is these two heralded models that continue to make up the backbone of the famed Japanese automaker even to this day. Lets look at the history of the Civic and Accord and how these models have brought Honda to where it is today: a seller of vehicles espousing world class quality and affordability.

The Honda Civic has graced American roads since the early 1970s. For years it attracted quiet notice as it was truly a mini amongst giants. Consumers had pet names for the car including - pregnant roller skate - yet the car began to quickly attract a loyal following. Indeed, with two fuel shortages popping up in the 1970s the gas sipping Civic caught on for its economy as well as for its reliability. Since its 1999 debut, the Honda Odyssey has been at the front of the minivan ranks. It combines superior styling, functionality and versatility. And it performs like a sedan masquerading as an eight-passenger van.

The 2006 edition further solidifies the vehicle's pedigree.

Much of the Odyssey's current styling and improvements were added in 2005. And there was no reason to mess with a good thing. The Odyssey's cavernous interior space, its well-designed seat configuration and overall comfort are hard to beat.

My test vehicle for the week was the Touring edition, one of seven available Odysseys, and the most expensive. The minivan has a huge price range, with the LX model offered at $25,195 and the Touring edition with DVD navigation offered at $38,495.

My weekly test included a frequently visited testing ground -- the 400-mile round trip from Sacramento to the Monterey Peninsula. The journey always includes numerous driving scenarios -- wide-open, high-speed Interstate 5 to the narrow, uneven side streets of Carmel.

Minivans are largely marketed toward families or for small groups. But for the last three years, I've traveled solo several times for several hundred miles in minivans. It's hardly the most economically efficient choice. But with the Odyssey, the journey is pleasant despite the vast amount of unused space.

Climbing and exploring around and through the vehicle, though, a solo traveler can get a good sense of things.

The second row of seats, for example, has superior head room and the bucket seats are adjustable into many positions. They can also be moved together to form a bench seat that can be slid forward and aft.

The third-row seat folds into the floor, which further extents available cargo space and alleviates a problem in other similar vehicles. A third seat not in use in an Odyssey doesn't have to be stored elsewhere. And iif all rows of seats are in use, there's a deep, rectangular space behind the third seat for additional cargo space.

Considering the Odyssey's Touring edition is the line's most expensive offering, the optional features simply enhance the generous offering of standard features.

The standard feature list on the LX model includes: remote keyless entry, AM/FM radio with CD player, all-power functions -- locks to mirrors to windows. Subsequent higher-priced models include myriad offerings -- power sunroof to navigation system, automatic headlights to power-sliding side doors.

The Touring edition has refinements like satellite radio, rearview camera and a rear-seat DVD entertainment system.

I first drove the Odyssey in 2004. That year, the automatic shifting arm was positioned behind the shorter arm that operated the windshield wipers. More than once, I reached for the shifting arm and engaged the windshield wipers or windshield cleaning spray function. The shifting mechanism is now a short-shifting lever, efficiently positioned at an angle on the near instrumentation panel.

Driving the Odyssey is pleasant. While never mistaken for a powerful sedan or a zippy sports car, the 3.5-liter 255-horsepower, V6 engine fares well -- better than some in either aforementioned class.

The drive to Monterey has winding, steep inclines to stop-and-go situations. The Odyssey handles itself well and its does so with efficient steering, good visibility and a strong, quiet ride.

The Odyssey has two small issues. The rear view camera -- visible on a small screen on the stereo console -- shows the area immediately behind the vehicle. It's a nice feature, but the view is blurry and there's a substantial trust factor learning curve -- at least there was for me.

Another issue: Both sliding side doors can open and close automatically via buttons of the keyless entry fob. But the function hasn't quite been perfected. There's a delay when opening or close doors, and on more than one occasion, the doors stopped before completely closing.

Nonetheless, the Odyssey well deserves its position as the minivan leader. Like other Hondas, it's hard to top in its class, whether used by a solo driver or a family on vacation.

Of course, if an Odyssey driver has only one passenger, the driver may spend a lot of time alone. The passenger could easily prefer to spend time in the comfort of the apartment in the back two seats.

One of the hottest commodities in the pickup industry is the Honda Ridgeline. It has swept almost all truck of the year awards given out by major motor shows. It would not surprise a driver if he found himself enjoying the full sized pickup from the moment he set his eyes on it. The beauty of this car does not end in its looks. While the design of the car is modern and is an eye candy, the manufacturers did not just stop there, of course. This monster of a car boasts of a unit-body full frame structure. This, in itself, is an innovation which takes this car on top of its class. The design brought to life by engineering geniuses of the company gives the car a very rigid structure. It also has front and rear end crumple zones in addition to having a rigid frame thereby increasing the safety of both driver and passengers in case of crashes. It is also dubbed as the pickup that will most likely not roll over.

Another reason for the fuss about this car is its In-bed Trunk. The Ridgeline tonneau is also another innovation which gives the user a storage area below the pickup bed, a convenient solution to storing supplies safe and dry.

Performance-wise, the vehicle is also one of the best in the market today. Its powerhouse is a 3.5 litre, 24 valve, SOHC VTEC V6 engine capable of giving the driver of up to 247 units of horsepower and a torque of 245 lb. ft. While this may not sound much compared to other models with bigger engines, but it is enough to power the pickup very well. All this power is transferred on all four tires of the truck, but during dry road driving, it is a two wheel drive vehicle. Once the going gets tough, the Variable Torque Management (VTM4) system goes to work and sends power to the tire needing traction. It is done so through its five-speed automatic with fluid cooler transmission.

When asked recently What tonneau cover would fit a Honda Ridgeline? I really had to dig but there are a few covers that fit the bill. First of all not being familiar with the Ridgeline by Honda I had to investigate. The Honda Ridgeline looks sort of like a cross between an SUV and a pickup truck. I certainly am not knocking this vehicle I think it looks absolutely great. Unfortunately at the time I wrote this article there are not a lot of tonneau covers manufactured to fit this pickup truck. I do hope that changes in the near future.

The first and my favorite for the said automobile that I did find is the BakFlip folding tonneau cover by Bak. This is a lockable hardtop tonneau cover made from an ABS plastic laminated over a honey comb core for extra strength. This tonneau cover allows you quick easy access to your truck bed by folding up in sections and when folded back all the way, it protects your rear window from large loads. The cover is easily removed by loosening a couple of wing nuts. This cover would add a great look to an already great looking automobile.

The next tonneau cover I found for the Honda Ridgeline is the Lo Pro soft roll-up truck bed cover by Truxedo. This soft roll-up tonneau has no snaps, it uses large velcro loop system for great sealing. This tonneau cover has a patented tension control so it will keep a snug fit on your Honda Ridgeline in all types of weather conditions. The Lo Pro rolls up and out of the way for easy access to your complete truck bed.

The last tonneau I found to fit the Honda Ridgeline was the Access Roll-up tonneau cover. The roll-up by Access also uses a hook and loop system to seal the tonneau. This cover uses an easy dial tensioner to keep the tonneau snug. The frame of this tonneau is made from aluminum and everything rolls up quickly to get at the bed of your Honda Ridgeline.

Whatever your choice is you will be getting a quality tonneau cover with any of these three truck bed covers. There are not a lot of tonneau covers for the Honda Ridgeline but these three would all look great on this pickup truck.

The 2005 Honda Civic sets the benchmark for reliability and resale value. Everyone seems to know this, but whats new and what can you expect out of the new Civic Coupe?

The Honda Civic Coupe models range from the DX Value Package, the HX Lean burn machine, to the LX and the top of the line EX model. The DX model is the base Civic Coupe. It has the 115 hp engine and limited creature comforts. The HX is your high mileage lean burn car. The lean burn means you can get 36 MPG city and 44 MPG highway as opposed to the LX and DX 32 MPG and 38 MPG. The EX suffers a 37 MPG highway drop probably due to the more powerful 127 hp engine.

The EX gives you some little things like body colored mirrors, sunroof, memory seats, height adjustable seats, too, along with an illuminated ignition switch. Wheels are upgraded to 15 alloys and the EX also has a six-speaker system with a CD that can read MP3 files. While all these features are nice, most of the extra goes into getting the 16-valve SOHC V-tech engine.

Handling characteristics are based upon the double wishbone rear suspension and the 4 wheel independent suspension. This allows for better handling with the MacPherson struts in the front tied to a high steering ratio. Get ready to have some fun driving again. But dont worry all models have front airbags. Most models are offered with front side air bags, too. ABS is standard on the EX, keeping the braking to a minimum, especially in wet or slippery conditions. Transmission is your choice of 5-speed manual, 4-speed automatic, or the continuously variable on the HX model.

The interior is ergonomically designed with wide seats and easily located controls. The front seats have deep side bolsters to hold the driver in place during aggressive cornering. But, they are comfortable for daily driving and hauling around 4 of your friends. The rear seats fold down to haul long cargo. A sunroof is available only with the EX model.

The air conditioning has a filtration system. But AC is an option on the HX model.

Honda offers nice factory options to customize your new car. They include a rear deck lid spoiler, wing spoiler, aero kit, splashguards, trunk mat, and my favorite, a trunk apron. It covers the bumper and open area when you are loading and unloading things from your trunk.

The new Honda Civic is one of the new classics or our age. Relentless reliability coupled with amazing resale value gives a good-looking care even more appeal to new buyers.

A friend recently made the comment: You never really look at a pickup truck and say, 'Wow! That's a good-looking vehicle.'

I'd never thought about it his terms, but his words rang true. His comments also made me laugh because we were discussing the Honda Ridgeline, the new compact pickup truck.

When I first noticed the truck, I immediately thought, Well, that's the first Honda I don't like.

Introduced last year at car shows and first made available nationwide earlier this year as a 2006 model, the Ridgeline could be categorized as the anti-pickup truck. But I didn't know that until my weekly test drive.

The Ridgeline just doesn't look like a Honda, and it looks more futuristic than functional. But just like the Element, which didn't fit the sports utility mold when it was introduced, Honda's new pickup up distinguishes itself quickly and on many levels.

My weekly test vehicle was RTL version, the top-of the-line of five options. Like the lower-priced RT and RTS models, the RTL features a 3.5-liter, 255-horsepower V6 with a 5-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel-drive. It's the only powertrain available.

The four-door Ridgeline also features a five-foot-long cargo bed. It includes independent rear suspension and a unibody construction. The cargo box is made from dent-free plastic with a steel-enforced floor and locking trunk bin.

Standard throughout the line are 17-inch wheels, bucket seats, a 60/40 split rear bench seat, anti-lock, four-wheel disc brakes and a rear window with a power-sliding center section. The RTL edition also includes a navigation system, leather upholstery, heated front seats, heated power mirrors and universal garage door opener.

The standard features inventory is long and varied, and includes: AM/FM/6-CD changer, MP3 player, satellite radio, automatic air-conditioning, alloy wheels, map and cargo box lights and steering wheel radio controls, among numerous other equipment gadgets and technology.

Driving the Ridgeline, however, is even more impressive. In short, it drives like a car. And while Consumer Guide describes the ride as exemplary for a pickup, the qualification isn't necessary.

With its upright, firm seats, fine steering and handling, expansive leg and head room, smooth and sturdy steering and handling and quiet ride, the Ridgeline simply shines.

A few unique offerings, including deep, plentiful and perfectly located storage compartments and trays, and a cavernous, sliding console between the front seats further add to the Ridgeline's fine use of space.

The front backs seat rubber floormats are secured with easy-to-use toggles. When not needed, the mats remove easily, revealing stylish carpet.

Honda uses the marketing motto: We put everything we know into the Ridgeline. What will you put into it?

That seems like the perfect question. It also quickly defuses any disparaging initial comments made about the vehicle -- whether from the public or from an unknowing car review who's now been enlightened.

Hydrogen fuel cell vehicles are considered as zero emission vehicles. These vehicles combine hydrogen fuel and oxygen from the air to produce water and electricity. The electricity is then used to power the electric motor which powers the vehicle.

Honda motors has developed a concept fuel cell car called the Honda FCX which will become a limited production car in 2008. Honda has equipped the FCX with a fuel stack and an ultra capacitor along with high pressure hydrogen tanks. The fuel cell stack serves as the main power source while the ultra capacitor serves as the storage unit for supplemental power.

The Honda fuel stack consists of the PEMFC (Proton Exchange Membrane Fuel Cell) and has a total maximum output of 86kW. The water produced when hydrogen and oxygen are combined, is used in the humidification system. The fuel cell system is located under the floor and the high pressure hydrogen tanks are positioned under the rear seat. The ultra capacitor is positioned at an angle behind the rear seat to ensure that luggage space is not lost from the trunk.

During startup and acceleration, the ultra capacitor assists the fuel cell to power the electric motor. During slowdown, the ultra capacitor recovers energy and stores it for future use. While the vehicle is stopped, the ultra capacitor provides energy to power the A/C, Radio and other electrical components while shutting the power from the fuel stack to the motor.

The latest generation of Honda FCX is about two times more efficient than it's hybrid counterparts. Honda has also redesigned the fuel cell stack to be V shaped to allow quick recovery of water generated during the electricity production. It is about 20 percent lighter and 30 percent smaller, while producing 14kW additional power. Honda has also added an auxillary litium ION battery.

The vehicle top speed is about 100 mph with a range of 354 miles on one tank. Large scale production of this car is limited by the number of hydrogen refuelling stations that will be built over the next few years. Overall, Honda seems to have made fantastic progress in building a highly energey efficient car of the future.

The Honda Manufacturing of Alabama LLC earlier announced a new $64.5 million expansion project. The project of the Japanese auto manufacturer, which is set to begin on May 1, is expected to create 20 new jobs.

The HMAs new project also include 27,000 square feet of extra building space that will house and operate a steel banking facility alongside the present steel stamping lines. The project also covers the multi-million dollar expansion to continuously enhance Hondas annual vehicle turnaround to more than 300,000 units.

The addition of a steel banking facility will offer improved efficiency in costs, quality and delivery for our Alabama manufacturing operations, said Mark Morrison, the manager of corporate affairs and communication for the HMA. We believe the investment and additional employment offered by this new venture also will benefit our customers and the community.

With a motion from the District 1 Commissioner Ed Lackey and a second from the District 5 Commissioner John Carter, the commission approved the tax abatement of the company for sales, use, and property taxes. Land abatements will last over a period of a decade for each piece of property and start on a property-by-property basis.

As estimated by experts, Honda will receive a $167,700 break from the annual amount of non-educational ad valorem taxes and $1,710,000 which has been abated from estimated construction-related transaction taxes.

The agreement stated that Honda and Talladega County each agree to pay its own costs and expenses related to the abatement. The county will not charge HMA a fee to secure the abatements and the company will continue to be primarily liable for the agreement to be carried out as stated. Anything that will bring more jobs in for the county is a wonderful project, said Commissioner Jimmy Roberson. The abatements will go away, but those jobs are here to stay.

HMA, at present, employs over 4,500 associates. In the state of Alabama, the company has a total of $1.3 billion investment. Since October 2006, the company has shown plans for a $91 million additional investment and this project will bring the manufacturing company to well over the $100 million mark.

Honda is most notable in the manufacture of both automobiles and motorcycles. I admit it. When I saw my first Honda Element a few years back I thought it was one of the most hideous looking vehicles on the planet. Then I saw the Scion xA and Scion xB, so I quickly relegated the Element to third place. I confess that my earlier feelings about the Element have changed, possibly because I see so many of them on the road these days and perhaps because I see its usefulness. No matter, the Honda Element is a unique looking vehicle and it is a lot less freakish than what you or I may think.

Freedom from convention. That is the saying on Hondas web site when it comes to labeling the Element. In many ways, this marketing slogan is true. Who says that any vehicle has to conform to what you expect? True, past radical models failed miserably. The Ford Edsel and VW Thing are two that come to mind. Yet, the times are different and a truly rad look is in. Real in, if you know what I mean.

The Element does have a practical side to it. Although it is shaped like a breadbox and equipped with two large doors as well as two smaller doors [reminds me of the Saturn ION, the 4WD LX Element has just about what any driver needs for just under USD$20K: ABS; theft deterrent; air conditioning; cruise control; power windows, doors, mirrors, and locks; and a AM/FM/CD audio system with 4 speakers and a clock. Standard powertrain include a feisty 2354cc I4 mated to a 5 speed manual transmission; a four speed automatic is optional but considering that this car is geared toward young people you can pretty much count on the manny tranny winning drivers out over the automatic.

Many of the components for the Element are borrowed from the Civic to give it more of a car like ride, while keeping its truck like appearance. Open all four doors at the same time and the Element evokes a strong resemblance to suicide doors that were standard on the 1960s era Lincoln Continentals as well as the Rolls-Royce Phantom. Honda was likely thinking that this design would make it easier for passengers to retrieve all of their gear without popping up the rear hatch and crawling in. Indeed, everything in the Element is easily accessible and the vehicle was designed for the outdoorsman.

Prices start at around $17,500 for the base 2wd model and climb to just over $21,500 for the fully equipped 4wd version. Compared to the average SUV, the Element is priced very competitively and opens up a niche of buyers that Honda hopes to exploit.

Whatever you think of the Elements looks the vehicle is an attention getter. Judging by the sales, it is a hit with the young crowd.

With a complete new re-design only a few months away, the 2006 Honda CR-V is about to be vastly improved. The new model is scheduled for arrival in December and should follow design cues from the more vibrant Acura RDX. As such, the current CR-V provides excellent maneuverability, solid build quality, and a superior interior to the Mitsubishi Outlander, Toyota RAV4, and the Jeep Liberty. The downside to the CR-V is the road noise and the so-so gas mileage of 23 mpg, but overall the 2006 CR-V excels in a field of mini-SUVs. Its well suited for the outdoorsy types who crave a more compact SUV encompassing a witty design, a reasonable cost (MSRP $20,395 $25,450), and a reliable reputation to drive in mountain terrain.

The secret of success for the 2006 Honda CR-V is the superior handling. It shares the same chassis as the new Honda Civic. It also shares the same double-wishbone, four-wheel independent suspension, with front and rear stabilizers that give it a softer, more car like ride. You can feel the difference of the 2006 CR-V to conventional truck based SUVs when you round a corner. The 2006 CR-V is considerably less squishy. Press on the accelerator and the peppy 2.4-liter, iVTEC engine, quickly accelerates pumping out 156 horsepower (at 160 pound-feet of torque) with a potent kick at 3,500 rpm when the butterfly valves open up, making the CR-V an immensely fun and sporty vehicle to drive.

Many people have difficulty climbing into the high cockpit of most SUVs. This is not the case with the 2006 CR-V. Theres no need for a step-up mechanism as required for larger SUVs (ground clearance is at 8.1 inches, ample for off-road adventure, but not too high that you need a ladder to get in.) Once inside, youll notice a familiar Honda interior that has been modified for the compact SUV. The seats are supportive with much lower lumbar comfort for longer commutes, and the multi-functioning steering wheel is well contoured to accommodate a host of secondary features. However, two things that stand out in the cabin are the gear shift mechanism that protrudes from the dashboard (rather from the center), and the hand brake that requires a saw mechanism to pull and push to activate and switch off. The rest of the cabin features unencumbered design and excellent round dials for climate control. The cabin has been well thought out and is ergonomically designed for life on the go. There are also a number of bins and door pockets for storing sun glasses, coins, maps, and beverage containers. Additionally, the 60/40 rear seats can tumble forward providing 72 cubic feet of cargo room, capable of holding two bicycles.

Technology means nothing unless it makes you feel something. Honda for some time has been known for generic design, but this is changing as emotionally-charged design is increasingly becoming the holy grail of Honda design. For example, if you walk around the second generation CR-V, you cant help but notice the new front grill, larger headlights, and the clean-cut look of the integrated bumpers. The front has a full-body appearance that is much bolder than the predecessor. The crisp hood lines have been tweaked for a subtle masculine feel. The longer wheel base provides better stability and a more aggressive stance. Look at it from the side, and the CR-V looks like a tight version of the popular Jeep Liberty. And the tail, with its lights placed higher on the panel, functions aesthetically well while enhancing safety.

Accidents happen. In researching this article, I came across a number of people who were in serious, life threatening accidents and claim they lived due to their CR-V. Improved safety innovations are standard on all 2006 Honda CR-Vs. Every CR-V comes complete with side curtain airbags, anti-lock brakes (ABS), and Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA). A rigid safety cage made from reinforced steel has helped the new CR-V earn the 5-Star (the highest) Safety Rating for front and side crash collision.

The power to personalize your vehicle is an integral aspect of Honda ownership. The 2006 Honda CR-V offers three trims to choose from to facilitate customization: the LX, EX and SE (Special Edition). The base LX features many luxurious amenities as standard features such as power windows, locks, mirrors, keyless entry, cruise control, front and rear power outlets, 16 wheels, and a removable folding picnic table. The EX features a premium sound system, rear privacy glass, power sunroof and outside temperature gauge. The SE offers the nicest interior featuring heated leather seats, and leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob. Additionally, the SE includes body colored mirrors, bumpers, side molding and a spare wheel cover. It seems Honda has been listening to what people want in a compact SUV, more style, safety and choices to be an original.

When the CR-V was introduced in 1997, it was Hondas answer to Toyotas RAV4, which was the first mini-SUV of its kind starting the mini-SUV craze the year earlier. Although the CR-V is about to be completely redesigned for 2007, the current model offers razor sharp styling, excellent interior details, and the Hondas reliable 4WD system. Where it could be improved is in its fuel efficiency, though as far as SUVs go, it is less thirsty than many. The CR-V offers reliability which has earned it loads of converts in recent years. The 2007 CR-V will undoubtedly address the limitations of the current model and undoubtedly build on the success of the marquee.

Honda has always carried the mantle as the engineering company. They have kept a culture of strong engineering and constant development. But there can be times when that culture blinds decision makers from seeing what's exactly in front of their eyes. Take the series of concepts Honda has released in the past months. The Acura ASC is a joke to Honda philosophy and it has definitely a step away from the philosophy of fluidity and efficiency the NSX had. Then Honda made all the noise of making a dedicated hybrid model and the show the uninspiring small hybrid concept in Geneva. Honda's styling department is going through some down days now, lets hope they get up quick. The big problem are the product planners. Honda always misses the mark in the hybrid business by narrow margins of insight (not referring to their hybrid car here) The insight failed because of practicality. They marketed it as a sports car, but in performance it was no better than a lowly regular small car.

Making a dedicated hybrid is a good idea, but Honda would have been better off making a car in the vein of the current civic hybrid and then give it a special look and purposeful design features that enhances its fuel economy. The concept shown at this years Geneva autoshow just begs the question why repeat the same flaws of the insight.

The NSX is loved by fans, but Honda seem not to have found a way to capitalize on that. The previous HSC concept was the embodiment of the essence of the NSX, but Honda abandoned it for the ASC. Now they decided they are canceling the ASC program. Honda has never made a profitable sports car even the s2000 is being killed because of the strain. By learning from mistakes and taking well informed steps to resolve them Honda can come out of this mess and continue to dazzle us with their engineering ability.

After taking a look at the all new 2006 Honda Civic, I have to say that Im most impressed. Its seems to have had a complete redesign job and I think it looks just fantastic despite the raw comments from the usual critiques. Im just a Joe average and no real authority on the motor, but as a long and loyal customer of Honda cars, I think I have some valid remarks to make on this latest addition to the Honda family.

One of the fist things I noticed when I got inside the car was that it seemed to have more space than the previous models. Theres also a smart looking all black 2 level instrument panel which I really like. Once you've got the ignition on, the lower dash area lights up and the upper layer displays the digital speedometer. Really slick and very easy on the eye. The layout is smart, clean, functional and convenient. Its also void of any distractions.

Being a family man I was looking at the 5 speed 4 door manual model with a 140bhp 1.8 liter engine. It seems as though electric windows are a standard feature now which is a nice touch. Other features and options worth a mention are electric door mirrors, front and rear air bags, side curtains, ABS and few other minor touches.

This is only a short review as Im neither a professional critique nor a driver of all models but what I can say as an avid fan and owner of Honda Civics is that Honda has done us proud on this model.

The Hybrid, which is a class of its own, differs in a number of ways. Its engine is smaller to start with, but it has a big electric motor support it. The clever thing about the Hybrid motor is that charges itself, spending and saving fuel as the situations arise. The new Honda Civic Hybrid boasts an impressive 50 mpg and not at the expense of power either, as this clever design has the gas engine and electric motor working together in perfect harmony.

As always, Honda has brought out the Si which has a different engine to the standard models. Ive not driven it but Im assuming the performance of the Si will be as impressive as always.

In my opinion, Japanese cars have always been great all round value from money but for me, Honda rules. Ive been lucky enough to have owned a total of 7 Honda cars now and havent encountered any serious problems for any of them.

Over the past few years, Honda's share of the American market has greatly increased. Honda plans on developing even more hybrid cars in the future, although they currently havent announced the names of the new models.

A Brief Background into Honda's Hybrid range from the start

Honda Insight

The Honda Insight was first produced in 1997 in Japan. In 1999, it was produced in the USA. The Insight was the first mass-produced hybrid in the United States. Based on EPA standards, the 5-speed manual transmission of the Insight makes it the most fuel-efficient mass-produced car sold in the United States.

The Honda Insight features a 3-cylinder engine and a brush less electric motor located on the crankshaft of the car. There are a set of 144 V NiMH batteries. When the car has heavy acceleration, the electric motor provides the additional power. During deceleration, the motor acts as a generator and recharges the batteries.

A Honda Insight achieved over 46 mpg in the city and roughly the same on the highway.

Unfortunately Honda stopped manufacturing Insight hybrids in September of 2006, although there may be some stock around. They plan on producing a replacement car that is even smaller in 2009.

Honda Accord

First produced in 2003, the Honda Accord is one of the most popular hybrid cars. It features both a gas and an electric V-6 engine.

Honda... Los Angeles, the two go together like the Hollywood and fancy restaurants. As well they should. If youre looking for a Honda, Los Angeles, youve come to the right place. In this article, youll get an honest review of the Honda Los Angeles 2007 CR-V.

The first thing you will notice as you check out the 2007 Honda CR-V is its completely revamped exterior. The style lines have been softened and the outline of this compact-SUV is completely different than the 2006 model. It would appear that Honda has responded to the American consumers desire for a more sleek, not boxy, SUV. I really appreciated the changes. This model just looks better going down the road than last years model.

The hood of the 2007 is gently rounded and from the windshield back, the roofline drops just slightly as it passes over the glass area. The wheel wells are lsightly extended and filled with rubber. The tire print from this SUV, is fairly beefy and gives it a squat, yet powerful look.

From the newly designed front bumper pseudo skidplate to the trademark CR-V taillights which sit top a high-relief tailgate panel, this CR-V screams style and ease. Your eyes are naturally drawn to the strong character line which runs from the top of the front wheel well to the middle of the side marker lens of the rear taillight. I like how this car looks. But what about the inside?

As are most things which bear the Honda badge, the interior of the 2007 CR-V focuses on the functional. All gauges and lights on the instrument panel are easily seen and while sitting in the drivers seat, everything is within easy reach. The overall look of the dashboard is classic Honda. Overall quality and fit easily meets the standard that Honda has already established in years past. The fabric upholstery of the model we drove seems durable and was comfortable as well. The EX-L model would have the upgraded leather as a standard option.

Though just average in height, I still felt that the slight increase in front seat height and wider backs was a nice change for the 2007 model. The side bolsters appear to be fairly functional in keeping the driver in his seat. The bottom bolster were created more for ease of entry than for functionality, though to be honest with you, most people wont be trying to pull too many Gs while making turns in this Honda.

The rear seats seem a little too contoured, but perhaps this was allowed to increase the functionality of the rear seat folding options. This was a feature that I really appreciated. The rear seat bottoms breaks down 60/40 with the longer piece being on the right. The rear seat backs, however, divide 40/20/40 into three sections, allowing you a myriad of choices and options when trying to arrange luggage or groceries.

Overall, the exterior and interior changes made to the 2007 Honda CR-V were very welcome. The outside looks great and the inside is comfortable and functional. Our next honest review will look at whats under the hood and how well the 2007 Honda CR-V drives.
